USB Type-C
The USB Type-C cable is the most technically advanced cable available. High voltage and current, coupled with 10 Gbps data rates and numerous wires drive ubiquity and, with it, complexity. Test and validation of cables has always been essential, but with the added risk of fire increasing liability, complete testing of these new cables is more critical than ever.
The Advanced Cable Tester enables this essential testing, without expensive scopes, custom fixtures, and highly trained personnel, saving a lots of money.
Pin check
All pins are checked for continuity, preventing dangerous situations like shorts of VBUS to data signals, VBUS/GND reversal, etc.
IR drop test
DCR and IR Drop testing confirms that each power pin (VBUS and GND) is capable of carrying the required current to meet the applicable specification. For Type-C cables, each power pin is individually measured, then the cable as a whole is tested.
E-marker test
E-Marker testing reads the data from any present E-Marker, then validates the advertised data and power capabilities against the actual measured parameters of the cable. Additionally, fields such as Vendor ID, Product ID, Test ID, firmware and hardware versions can be set by the operator, for easy pass/fail determination of cables through a QA process.
API
A REST API is available for integration of the Advanced Cable Tester into a larger test infrastructure. This integration can be very high-level: taking just a real-time pass/fail indication; or much more integrated: retrieving all details for custom processing, analysis, logging, etc.
Connectors
The Advanced Cable Tester itself supports testing of both Full-Featured and USB 2.0 Type-C cables. Adapter cards are available for legacy connectors, enabling testing of additional types of cables:
  • Standard-A to Micro-B (USB 2.0 & USB 3.1)
  • Standard-A to Type-C (USB 2.0 & USB 3.1)
  • Standard-A to Lightning (USB 2.0)
  • Type-C to Micro-B (USB 2.0 & USB 3.1)

  • Lightning to Micro-B (USB 2.0 & USB 3.1)

The purchase of your Advanced Cable Tester – Level 1 Application includes one year of support, allowing you to download any updates for this application for 12 months after purchase.
Level 2 App
The optional Advanced Cable Tester - Level 2 Application software upgrade includes all the above, plus the ability to test and validate all High-Speed and SuperSpeed wire pairs.
